BOCC: Printz on 4H Devastation

Board of County
Commissioners (BOCC)
—December 14, 2017
WESTCLIFFE, CO

The meeting started at 9 a.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and Roll Call. Introductions of the public in attendance followed.
This was a short meeting – with only a few things on the agenda.
The Board amended a previous motion to change the Safety Awards for Road & Bridge from $50 to $100 each. There are two people who had safety incidents that will not receive this award.
The Board approved the bid from 4Rivers for work on the loader at the landfill for $35,660. The work will be done after the first of the year.
The Board accepted the recommendation from the IT interview committee to hire candidate #4 (who turned out to be Vernon Roth.) His salary will be $40K per year – with benefits, $51K.
The Fair Board, represented by Sara Shields, Diane Rose, Sue Roberson and Eileen Squire, addressed the accusations brought before the BOCC last meeting. They spoke about the wide variety of projects that kids could pursue. They also explained that the protest form that they use was copied from another fair board, and that the money spent filing the protest would be refunded if the protest is legitimate. This was done to keep frivolous protests to a minimum. Mrs. Rose told the Board that Mr. Baker was removed from the board for sending berating and abusive emails (that apparently were shared with the BOCC.)
Commissioner Printz asked about growth in 4-H and commented, “I’m just hoping that this devastation that we caused – meaning the previous commissioners – and Jay . . . I just want to make sure that we’re on the big swing up.”
The meeting was adjourned at 9:58 a.m.
