The Custer County High School Boys Basketball Team ended the regular season with a victory over Cripple Creek-Victor on Saturday, February 17th. The Bobcats fought their way to a crowd-pleasing comeback score of 55-53. After a sluggish first half which saw the Bobcats down by as much as 17 points, the boys came out in the second half ready to play some basketball. Custer County scored 35 points and sharpened their defense to hold the Pioneers to 22. Patrick Post led the team in scoring with 20 points. Kobe Lewsader added 14 points and had 13 rebounds. Billy Berry led the Bobcats in rebounds with 17, and he scored nine points. Chad Lewenkamp led in assists with eight.
The previous night, Friday, February 16, the Bobcats lost an away game to Center 51-36. Billy Berry led the team in scoring and rebounds, with 16 and nine respectively. Patrick Post added 10 points.
As for the JV basketball team, the Bobcats finished second in the “Cowbell Tournament” on Thursday night on the home court. In the first game, the young Bobcats beat the South Park Burros 44-39. Wesley Curtis, Cash Rowley, and Eero Prusti each scored 10 points for the team. Jakob Morris added eight points. Rowley, Prusti, and Morris each had five rebounds and Wesley Curtis led the team in assists with five. In their second game, the Bobcats lost to the undefeated
Cotopaxi Pirates 39-17. Jakob Morris led the team in scoring with seven, Eero Prusti led in rebounding with nine, and Wesley Curtis led in assists with three.
On Friday night, the JV Bobcats also lost to Center, 23-21. Eero Prusti led the team in both scoring and in rebounding, with seven each. Only varsity teams played when Cripple Creek-Victor came to town on Saturday, so the Center game finished the season for these boys. They have honed some skills for next season, and it’s too bad that Eero Prusti is an exchange student from Finland and will not be here next year.
