Fremont County Sheriff’s Office
On September 22nd, 2018, at approximately 10:45 p.m. Fremont County Deputies were dispatched to the area of K Path and 30th Trail in Cotopaxi on a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival deputies confirmed one person had been shot and was deceased.
Fremont County Deputies, Fremont County Investigations unit and CBI are investigating this as a homicide. 
One male is confirmed deceased. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending positive identification and notification to next of kin. (Fremont County Sheriff’s Office released the name later. Jonathon Kern was the victim.)
Investigators state they believe this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
No other information is available as this is an ongoing investigation.

Editor’s Note: Locals say this murder took place in the heart of a troubled environment, specifically, meth labs and dealers.  Though this fact has nothing to do with the victim, we warn landowners in the area that  the “no threat to the public” does not mean that the neighborhood is completely safe.
