Steve Wiser is a successful farmer in Northwestern Pennsylvania. The sandy soil along the southern shore of Lake Erie and abundant rain support rich harvests of sweet corn, soybeans, and pumpkins. He works up to 3,000 acres that he has lived on since childhood and worked with his father, Harold Wiser, for many years. He works hard through spring, summer and fall.
In winter, after harvest is done and the maintenance on machinery has been completed, Steve gets to indulge in his hobbies,
especially hunting.
“I am not a hunter; I am a killer,” Steve corrects.
He has successfully hunted deer in Pennsylvania, deer and elk in Custer County, and moose in Alaska. This past January he slated himself and his farm manager, Nicoletta Cherry, to hunt mountain lion in Wyoming.
Nicoletta successfully killed a male lion that is large by Colorado standards. But Steve’s was a “monster”. Estimated weight in the field was 200 pounds. Steve says the lion hunt was the most exciting hunt he has ever been on, and the excitement lasted for hours that day.
He recently had the lion mounted by Gary Bohochik at G.B. Taxidermy in Swissvale. Gary has been in the business all his life, and this is by far the largest cat he has preserved.
Steve recently drove to Colorado to pick up the two beautifully mounted cats, and is returning to Pennsylvania soon with his trophies. Steve is the brother of Mrs. Chris Mohr, and brother-in-law of Canon City, Family Doctor Gary Mohr MD.
