Some Judeo Christian faiths teach that we all have a Guardian Angel, especially children who need most guidance and protection during their early and formative years. For the children of Custer County, they are specially blessed because of an opportunity to have even more than just one Guardian Angel. At the West Custer County Library on Main Street an Angel awaits all kids who would like to enroll in various programs now available since she came to work at the library in June of 2018. This Angel hails from the state of Kansas where she lived and went to school graduating from the state university in Art Education.
With faith and trust in their abilities Angela McCaffery, her husband, Patrick, and two children moved to Westcliffe. The programs Angela oversees are both fun and educational, giving the youth an opportunity to develop their innate talents.
For children five years and younger they have “Play to Learn” activities. From Kindergarten to Fourth Grade, their program is called “Camp Happiness” and involves reading and science, or art or even both. Then there is a program for teenagers which includes reading at different levels and other practical activities such as learning about the interviewing process and other fun activities.
A new program, “Lego Club” is designed for kids five and above. There is also Game Night where the children have been involved in making pizzas in a toaster oven. In the kids’ section of the library there are (G) Rated movies also available to check out. So there is a lot of activity going on at the library for children of all ages to learn and develop and keep their minds active in positive ways.
Angela, who also helps out at the front desk, loves her job. She is currently looking for assistance from teenage volunteers. If you know anyone who may want to help her you may email at angela@
