On Saturday, December 14th from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will continue its traditional recreation of the birth of Christ as a Living Nativity scene. This year marks the 21st Anniversary of the event.
Visiting the Living Nativity has become a tradition for many viewers from Fremont County and beyond. New visitors are invited to join in the tradition at 801 N. Sheridan Avenue in Cañon City to help celebrate the Christmas season.
The cast, consisting of church members and other volunteers from the community, includes the Holy Family, angels, shepherds, wise men and animals participating outdoors. Many others are involved as support staff behind the scenes.
Donations of non-perishable food items and cash will be accepted on behalf of Loaves & Fishes Ministries of Cañon City.
Upon arriving at the Church, visitors may either drive through and observe from their vehicles, or they can park their vehicles and walk along the changing scenes and reflect as the story is told through Bible readings and music.
The Church is the last building on the left on Sheridan Ave. To drive past the Nativity, go north on 15th Street, turn left onto Woodlawn Avenue and at the second stop sign turn right onto Sheridan Ave. Or, go north on 9th Street, turn right onto College and then turn left onto Sheridan (one block past the High School).
