Multiple economic development studies have been made in Custer County which included wish lists from residents regarding what, if any, businesses they would like to see open up in the county. High up on the list, if not at the very top, the residents pined for a pharmacy. The last drug store in the county ceased operations
approximately thirty long years ago. Since then, residents have had to trek down the mountain to pick up their medications in all kinds of weather, a feat which becomes quite challenging in the dead of the winter months. Well, not anymore!

Silver Cliff has successfully negotiated with the very best pharmacy in the area, Palace Drugs of Cañon City, opening soon. Palace has been doing business since 1880. One hundred and forty years makes it the oldest such establishment in Fremont County.
Throughout that time it has been located in the same place, on the corner of Main and 6th Streets in Cañon City. Recently,
its newest and sixth owner, Dr. William Shelver, made the decision to open a satellite office in Custer County to serve the needs of the residents of the Wet Mountain
Valley and its vicinity.
Dr. Shelver is a young man, full of energy, who was born in North
Dakota, the state which takes its name from the Sioux word dakota; meaning friends or allies. He left at sixteen when his family moved to Cotopaxi, Colorado, where he graduated from Cotopaxi High School.

After high school Dr. Shelver worked for a while in the construction industry before returning to academia at the University of Colorado where he earned his degree in pharmacy, graduating in 2007. Immediately after graduation he went to work at Palace Drugs in Cañon City.
He is married to Rachel and has a son, Thor, 13 and a daughter Ava, 11. Dr. William and his family are delighted to be starting their business in Silver Cliff and look forward to many years of serving the Custer County community for all their pharmaceutical needs.
Palace Drugs in Silver Cliff is located at the Professional Building, #94 Main Street in Silver Cliff. Their hours are 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Closed on Thursdays and weekends. A truly great feature of the new pharmacy is that if a client presents their prescription on or before 4 p.m., the medication will be ready for pick up at 6 p.m. on the same day.
Dr. Shelver invites everyone to a Grand Opening Day on Saturday, August 22nd from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at which time all are welcome to meet the Shelvers and their staff and enjoy a BBQ of hotdogs and burgers.
