Fireworks this Year- Donation Cans are Here!

Dear Fellow Citizens/Business Owners of Custer County

May the 4th of July be with you.

The 4th of July has historically been a great time for tourists and brings in a lot of visitors to the county.

As you may have heard or read, the Fire Department is not going to put on the display this year. Therefore, I am asking for your support.

What I am asking for is a firm commitment of dollars and assistance in collecting the necessary funds to keep the fireworks alive.  We are also looking for an organization to join and be a sponsor or co-sponsor of the event.

As you may know, pricing for everything these days has increased. A fireworks show that costs $5,000 in previous years will now cost $10,000. We are behind in our efforts to collect these funds.

I am a member of the Wet Mountain Fire Protection District’s Board of Directors and a Firefighter. I have obtained the use of the fireworks display system and a crew to help with the actual display.

I will be going around to all the businesses asking to place the collection boxes and seeking donations.

If you would like to make a donation to the Fireworks funds, you may do so the following ways:

  • Mail a donation to Wet Mountain Fire Protection District (POB 324, Westcliffe, CO 81252)
  • Bring your donation to Main Station (215 N 4th St, Westcliffe) Monday-Thursday
  • Make a deposit into the Fireworks account at United Business Bank

Please be sure to write “Fireworks” on the memo line of your check.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the number below.

Thank you,

Sincerely,

Russ Johnson
