Coroner’s Ball Set for Oct 18

Custer County Coroner’s Scholarship Ball
Costume Contest, Prizes, Silent Auction

by Sentinel Staff
The Inaugural Custer County Coroner’s Scholarship Ball is set for October 18th at the Saddle Club. Coroner, Brad Baltzly, believes it is important to support and encourage the kids in our community who want to enter the trade business. He believes his team can help in that endeavor by raising money for a trade scholarship through a Coroner’s Ball.
Baltzly became aware of Custer County High School “Scholarship Night” and wanted to join the effort. Scholarship Night takes place each spring for all high school seniors. Local businesses and organizations award scholarships to the applicant(s) who meet the criteria of their individual scholarship. This yearly event awards in excess of $60,000 to local students pursuing college or trade school.
Baltzly’s focus is on funding at least one graduating senior’s trade school certification. He is the fourth generation of a construction and trade focused family. Baltzly has worked construction in Custer County for 31 years and sees firsthand the need for more skilled laborers and tradesmen. He wants to begin to fill the gap by helping at least one young ambitious student achieve their goal of learning a trade which could lead to them also becoming an entrepreneur.

The adults only Coroner’s Ball will begin at 6 p.m. with a Spaghetti Dinner provided by Tony’s Mtn Pizza in Silver Cliff. Then after dinner join the fun of dancing and the live music of Dave Ropollo, a Costume Contest with prizes for 1st – 3rd places, and a Silent Auction. The auction items will include a gun from Custer County Supply, Sangre Mountain Range wood pieces from Wet Mountain Rustics, a painting from Molly Parkes, gift baskets from local businesses and much more.
Advanced tickets are $30 for a single or $50 for a couple. Tickets can be purchased at Tony’s Mtn. Pizza, Wild Flour Donuts & Co and the Sentinel or from the County Coroner.

Baltzly’s team is fully committed to help make the Inaugural Coroner’s Ball a huge benefit for our community’s aspiring youth. Chief Deputy Nikita Phillips, Deputy Jay Jacobs and Carleigh Jacobs are in full planning mode as they continue to look for event sponsors. Their goal is to make the experience fun for all attendees while raising money for trade scholarships. If you would like to become an event sponsor, contribute an item for the auction, or be a ticket outlet please contact Nikita Phillips at (719) 458-9402 or Carleigh Jacobs at (210) 854-3218. Hope to see you October 18th at the Inaugural Coroner’s Ball.
