There was a sell out crowd in the main dining area of 4 Kings on Thursday evening, June 15th as the Liberty Rocks Chairperson, Ann Barthrop, called the meeting to order a little past six o’clock. After the customary Pledge of Allegiance and everyone heartily singing “America The Beautiful”, Dr. Ann Willson read from the “Book of Presidents”, this time quoting President Dwight Eisenhower, affectionately known as Ike, when he said “ man is worthwhile because he is born in the Image of God”.
Mr. Harald Frank, one of our local patriots, introduced the featured speaker for this event giving him high compliments for his expertise on the subject he was going to expound on. Col. Shawn Smith is a retired officer of the U.S. Air Force, having served 25 years in space and missile operations and multiple capacities in testing and oversight for some of the nation’s most complex computer-based space, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems. He currently leads a national, non-partisan, citizen led volunteer organization solely focused on election integrity called Cause of America.
During his time in the Air Force he learned that even there, the corruption that is evident in the private sector has seeped into the halls of the military industry. After he left the service and joined private enterprise, he became interested in the election process. He did what he was extensively trained to do and dove deeply into research where he found many anomalies. Never a member of any political party, his studies into the election/voting systems and procedures was honest and objective. He found that most if not all systems are either built or assembled in a foreign country (China and many others).
Every electronic system uses American branded parts and products but everyone is compromised in some way. He showed compelling proof of his findings which included results of his research into Custer County itself. As far as that is concerned, he claims quite forcefully that there are no requirements in any government statute that mandates the use of any electronic equipment during elections. There is also no way that any federal or state entity can force any county to use any system for local elections. The entire election process is under the complete control of the local government. They can opt to defund any form of electronic system, especially since the system currently used, in Smith’s view, is compromised.
This speaker is very knowledgeable on the subject matter and held the audience practically spellbound during almost two hours of his uninterrupted presentation. He encourages the residents of the county to get petitions and if necessary, go door to door and person to person securing a mandate from the people to defund election machines of all kinds. Admittedly he says there may be a “fight” but the people have to steel themselves for this confrontation. The sooner the better in order to reinstate election integrity. Without election integrity there is little that can be done to reduce corruption. If elections are not in the control of the people, they will have no power in deciding their future. The BOCC has to listen to the people if they are to serve them properly.
