Second Ambulance Staffed Soon, Plans to Partner with Heart of the Rockies – Salida

WCCHD Board of Directors Regular Board Meeting
—February 13, 2019
WESTCLIFFE, Colo.
by Dallas Anderson

The meeting was called to order by Board Chairman Bob Tobin at 3:25 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by approval of meeting minutes of November 29, 2018.
Director Lisa Drew provided an update on the proposed partnering with Heart of The Rockies hospital in Salida, CO. This partnership is in the planning stages, and will take up to a year to finalize.
Chairman Tobin reported that the partnership could be very beneficial to Custer County especially, and also to Heart of The Rockies. More to come… Rebecca Penkoff has been hired as Nurse Practicioner, and a part-time Phlebotamist has been hired also.
EMS Report: There are now 10 certified EMTs living in Custer County. This will allow a second ambulance to be manned, unlike in the past, when only one ambulance crew was available. The last EMT training class graduated eight students.
They will be doing field instruction with American Medical Response (AMR) in Pueblo on their way to
certification.
The Board voted to provide the EMS director a letter of commendation for this achievement. There was a lengthy discussion on how the EMS service can recoup some of the costs that they do not bill for.
CFO Report: The financial report for 2018 was presented and will be posted on the website ASAP. See www.custercountyclinic.com.
Follow-up to the proposed weapons policy for the clinic. The Board is adopting a policy of no weapons in the clinic, except for Law Enforcement officers on duty. There will be signs posted in the near future.
By-laws review: The Board is in process of updating and correcting the by-laws for the Hospital Board.
The next regular meeting will be March 7, 2019. The meeting was adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
