Tommy Walker Passes

Thomas (Tommy) William Walker, 64 passed away peacefully in the arms of his family October 24, 2021, at his home in Westcliffe, Colorado after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tommy was born in Huntsville, TX, on June 16, 1957, to Rev. Billy Gene and Gay Nell Walker. Tommy graduated from Hemphill High School in 1975, where he met his high school sweetheart Cindy Kay Greer, and later married June 4, 1977, at the First Baptist Church in Hemphill, TX. Tommy worked and supported his family as an oilfield welder for many years. He would always say, “If you love what you are doing, you never work a day in your life.” He took many young welders under his wing and taught them the industry, including his son, Colt, who has taken over the welding and oilfield legacy.
Tommy told his wife when they got married, he was going to move to Colorado someday. He fulfilled that promise in 1997, when he moved his family to Westcliffe, Colorado. Tommy had a love of guns, hunting and horses that he passed on to everyone that he met. He loved to take people out and show them how to shoot and take care of their firearms. If you mentioned anything about hunting, he would be planning out his next season and where he was going to take you. His love for horses was never wavering as he raised them all of his adult life. All of his loves put together made for some great hunting trips for his family and friends.
Tommy loved teaching and passing on his knowledge to anyone he met. He taught Ag classes for both Custer County High School and Cotopaxi High School. He shared his knowledge of welding and mechanics to many kids throughout the years.
Tommy had a love for some worldly things, but his greatest love of all was the love that he had for his Heavenly Father. He was a devoted Christian and witnessed to everyone he came across. Tommy raised his family putting Christ above all and knowing all things are possible for those who believe. He would say, “ don’t be sad for him down here, but praise God that he was no longer suffering in this world.” The only scars in Heaven are the ones holding him now.
He is survived by his devoted wife and companion of 44 years; Cindy Greer Walker of Westcliffe, Colorado, son; Thomas Colt Walker and wife Denise of Jefferson, Colorado, daughter; Christon McNew and husband Kenneth of Seneca, Missouri, son; Ethan Walker of Milam, Texas, and grandchildren; Trinity, Jaden, Hunter, Jacob, and Canaan, as well as brothers; David, Kenny, and Charles Walker, parents; Rev. Billy Gene and Gay Nell Walker.
He is preceded in death by his Grandparents Thomas M. Walker and wife Susie, and William Inman and wife Sylva.
