Sheriff Byerly will not seek re-election in November

To the citizens of Custer County,
It has been my honor and pleasure to serve as your Sheriff over the last seven years. After considerable thought and prayer, my wife and I have decided it is time for me to step away from Law Enforcement and look to different horizons in my future. With this in mind, I will not seek re-election in November. I am extremely proud of the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office who serve this community. Most will never know the sacrifices they make, nor the positive impact they have each and every day. I am humbled by their dedication to you, and the county as a whole. Over the last seven years, our office has developed into an agency our community can be proud of. We have accomplished far too many things to list, but I am proud of where we are today and know it couldn’t have been done without the great people who work here.
All things come to an end, and it is time for me to step away and let another person push this office to even greater heights. As I complete the last year in office, my pledge to the citizens of Custer County is to continue to strive to do better every day and prepare the next person to enter the office fully prepared to take on whatever the need may be. Until then, I will do my part to ensure we are providing you the very best services possible.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported me over the last 8 years. Those who worked hard to help my campaign, and those who gave me a word of encouragement or appreciation along the way. Each of you know who you are, and I am forever grateful for each of you. This has been a tremendous opportunity and I am grateful for it. I wish nothing but the best for the county and those who volunteer to lead it into the future. May each of you be blessed in all that
you do.
Respectfully,
Sheriff Shannon Byerly
