That’s right! The Fremont County Commissioners have declared
Fremont County to be a Second Amendment Sanctuary County.
The new Red Flag proposal in the Colorado Legislature would deprive American citizens of the right to due process. Newly elected Sheriff Allen Cooper agreed with the move, also citing lack of due process.
In speaking to the Board regarding HB 1177 better known as ‘Red Flag,’ Fremont County Sheriff Allen Cooper said, “In my opinion, it doesn’t offer ‘Due Process’ and there is no regress for those falsely accused.”
Commissioner Tim Payne weighed in remarking, “As I told the Sheriff this morning, what bothers me the most is the [attack on the] Fourth Amendment to the Bill of Rights. Due process and probable cause have been in place for over 200 years and have served us well. For this to be
attacked bothers me.”
Commissioner Debbie Bell agreed with that adding, “It should not only be disturbing to residents and citizens, but it should be deeply disturbing to residents and citizens because we all feel as though a right is being taken away. Fremont County has no interest what-so-ever in participating in that.”
Fremont County Chairman Dwayne McFall ended the discussion with a quote from Thomas Jefferson:
“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms
Is to a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny and the government.”
The resolution declaring Fremont County a Second Amendment Sanctuary County was unanimously approved.
Due process, probable cause and the right to redress are under attack more often now than ever before. The Red Flag would have called for law enforcement to spend their valuable time chasing down “he said, she said” complaints, possibly becoming a usable weapon for angry exs or others with an axe to grind.
The Fremont County Sheriff and County Commissioners have sworn an oath to protect the Constitution of America. That is what they have done today. Fremont County residents have seen their right to due process and regress under the law preserved by the vigorous action of the Commissioners and Sheriff.
